Unfortunately, this is one thing which we are not allowed to do on your behalf.

Usually a death is registered by an Executor or a close relative of the deceased. If no relative is available, registration can be carried out by the person who has taken responsibility for arranging the funeral or by the occupier of the premises where the death occurred (such as the Matron or Senior Officer of a care home). The death must be registered in the district in which it occurred.

You will need to take with you the following documents:
The Medical Certificate of cause of death.
The Deceased’s National Health Service Medical Card (if available)
The Deceased’s Birth Certificate
The Deceased’s Marriage Certificate (if available)
If the death has been referred to the Coroner, it cannot be registered until the Registrar has received Authority from the Coroner.

The registrar will need to know the following:
Full name and address of the Deceased.
Date and place of Death of the Deceased.
Date and place of Birth of the Deceased.
Occupation (or last occupation) of Deceased.
Date of Birth of Surviving Partner.
Whether Deceased was receiving a Pension or Allowance from Public Funds.
If the Deceased was a married woman the Registrar will also need to know her maiden name, her husband’s full name and last occupation, even if he is deceased.

The Registrar will give you:
A Green Certificate - We require this as soon as possible (not issued for a cremation where a Coroners Post Mortem has taken place or when an Inquest has been held).
A White Certificate - This is purely for Department of Work and Pensions purposes and should be completed and sent to them.
Copy Death Certificate - These are what most people understand as ‘The Death Certificate’ and are not issued free of charge (please ask about current cost). They may be needed for Bank, Building Society, Insurance, etc., purposes.

Please note that all Local Registry Offices require an appointment. Please see the separate insert for up to date contact numbers and opening hours.
